Teams started arriving at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, around 6:30 a.m. The temperature was 77 degrees with 89 percent humidity. Wind speeds were at 5 miles per hour.

***

The first morning promoter test session began at 9:05 a.m. and lasted 40 minutes. F4 U.S. competes on the 2.25 miles, 12-turn Mid-Ohio road course without the chicane. Thirty of the 32 F4 U.S. competitors tested, and the session was without on-track incidents. Series newcomers Chandler Horton of Zionsville, Indiana, Colin Mullan of Danville, California, and Chris Gumprecht of Stanfordville, New York, were required to successfully complete two standing starts before the end of the two test sessions. All three drivers finished the starts during the first session. Timing and scoring was not recorded because the session was not an official series test. The first session ended at 9:45 a.m.

***

The competitors started their final promotor test session at 11:05. Thirty-one drivers participated. Since the session was and unofficial test session, timing and scoring was not recorded.

***

12:00 p.m. Competitors and staff broke for lunch

***

The drivers attended a mandatory meeting hosted by Chip Robinson at 1:00 p.m. After reviewing the last race and discussing the track, FIA flags and full-track yellow procedures were covered in detail.

***

At 2:00 p.m. the F4 U.S. drivers and their coaches drove street cars on the track to study the course for 30 minutes.

***

The official F4 U.S. practice session started after lunch at 3:50 p.m. Thirty-one cars participated. Dakota Dickerson of San Diego withdrew from the weekend prior to the official practice. Dickerson also did not participate in the promoter test day. Since F4 U.S. was only scheduled for one practice session, track officials extended it to 50 minutes, 20 minutes longer than the typical practice. Four red flags were thrown during the prolonged period; however, all incidents were minor individual accidents. Kyle Kirkwood of Jupiter, Florida, claimed the fastest lap of the session with a 1:25.997, breaking Konrad Czaczyk’s track record (1:26.463) set during the inaugural event. On the last lap of the session, Jacob Loomis of Corinth, Texas, turned his fastest time of a 1:26.464. Skylar Robinson of Augusta, Georgia, and Raphael Forcier of Montreal made F4 U.S. history during practice, turning the exact same fast-lap time, down to the thousandth of a second. Fast times from practice determines the order of qualifying tomorrow.

Quotes from Practice Results

Chandler Horton, Miller Vinatieri Leguizamon Motorsports- Overall, I was quite happy with how today turned out. It was a lot of fun trying to learn a new car and track all in one day. I owe a big thanks to Dr. Jack Miller, Mitch Davis and the rest of the MVL crew for their commitment and guidance today. It also helped to have good, reliable teammates to shorten my learning curve. Hopefully, we can continue our progress throughout the weekend.

Colin Mullan, Jay Howard’s Motorsports Driver Development- I’ve been having a great first, race weekend so far. The car is a blast to drive. I was able to improve and felt confident throughout the day. The last session I was chasing setup as the track changed, but I have no doubt we’ll get it resolved before tomorrow. I am looking forward to some close racing.
