Consistency at the second Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda event at Road Atlanta in May turned a 54-point deficit into a 3-point advantage for Crosslink/Kiwi Motorsport, snatching the lead in the team standings from Jay Howard Driver Development.

A win, a third and fifth-place finish from its rookie pilot Jose Blanco of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and three strong top-10 finishes from veteran F4 U.S. driver Austin Kaszuba of Burleson, Texas, pushed the second-year team from second into first after six rounds. While two of its other drivers scored an additional 11 points in Atlanta, only the top-two drivers on each team can earn points for the team championship after each round. With five drivers flying its colors, Crosslink/Kiwi Motorsport is the only multi-car team with more than two cars to have all its drivers score points.

“Sneaking to the top of the team championship validates a merging of our two smaller operations very nicely,” said Crosslink/Kiwi Motorsport co-owner Patrick Flynn about Crosslink Racing and Kiwi Motorsport’s recent off-season unification. “We look forward to trying to defend this lead against the other excellent racing teams in the F4 U.S. Championship.”

Jay Howard Driver Development experienced a more humbling weekend in Road Atlanta after having such a dominating debut at Virginia International Raceway. JHDD’s only veteran driver in its five-car lineup Braden Eves of Gahanna, Ohio, saved the squad in standings, notching out the only points for the Indianapolis-based team. Global Racing Group and DC Auto with Cape Motorsports continued its tight race in points, tying for third in the team championship heading into Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Single-car teams DEForce Racing and Primus Racing Team also scored valuable points at the second F4 U.S. event. With three podium visits from rookie James Raven of Portsmouth, England, DEForce was the only team represented on the podium in each round at Road Atlanta, securing a solid 31-point lead over Abel Motorsports for fifth. After being iced-out in the first three rounds at VIR, Primus Racing recovered nicely at Road Atlanta, jolting from a near last place standing to a firm seventh place in the team championship.
