Pedersen Seeks First Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course Win

Benjamin Pedersen of Copenhagen, Denmark, heads into the Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda mid-season event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course driven to defend his point lead against a stout 32-car field.

“When I have a great team behind me producing consistent results, it’s easy to get to the top, but staying there requires even more work,” said Pedersen. “Inde Motorsports Ranch in Arizona is our home testing track, so in between on-track practice sessions I’ve been taking extreme elevation runs in 100-degree heat to prepare my body for the humidity. The team and I also spent one full day reviewing turns one by one, watching past years’ videos and studying data from Mid-Ohio weekends.”

Driving the bright orange and black No. 24 DirtFish Rally F4 car, Pedersen enters the weekend with two wins, a pair of podiums and two top-five finishes.

Pedersen is one of the few drivers in the F4 U.S. field to previously compete on the 2.25 mile, 12-turn road course. Over the span of his F4 career, the Global Racing Group driver finished at Mid-Ohio in the top-10 three times, the top-five once and claimed a podium during the inaugural championship race. He returns to the Buckeye state hungry for another win.

“Mid-Ohio is also pretty tricky when rain hits with the track surface, so that is always a variable,” said Pedersen. “While I have prepared for Mid-Ohio like all the other tracks we’ve visited this season, I spent a lot more time on the simulator practicing for those tough weather conditions, especially since it rains every time we visit Mid-Ohio.”

Pedersen and the rest of the GRG squad travel to Lexington, Ohio, June 29-July 1 with a twilight test at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Thursday, followed by two official practice sessions on Friday. Qualifying starts Saturday morning with the first round of racing in the afternoon. The weekend concludes on Sunday with the final two rounds of racing.
