Merrill Clocks Fastest Lap in TA2 ® Practice
Thomas Merrill, No. 99 Mike Cope Race Cars Ford Mustang, may have changed team banners for the Daytona International Speedway TA2® Powered by AEM finale, but his speed on the race track followed him as he clocked the fastest time (1:50.437-seconds) in the final TA2® practice of the season.
Rafa Matos, also with a new team wheeling the No. 7 Silver Hare Racing Ford Mustang, returned to the series not missing a beat. Matos secured the fastest time of the session early with fastest lap of 1:50.615-seconds, before being eclipsed by Merril by 178-thousandths of a second.
Not racing with the series since Round 2 at Road America, 15-year-old Sam Mayer (No. 92 SLR/Fields Racing/M1Racecars Chevrolet Camaro) proved he can run at the top with the series veterans, laying down a flyer on Lap 5 of 1:50.662-seconds.
The top-seven times were only separated by eight tenths of a second.
