Benjamin Pedersen Joins 2021 IndyLights Roster

Formula Regional Americas Championship presented by Honda graduate Benjamin Pedersen will make his Indy Lights debut under Global Racing Group with HMD Motorsports banner in 2021. Pedersen moves into Indy Lights with the expanded HMD outfit after dedicating multiple years to the F4 U.S, FR Americas and British F3 programs.

His teammate will be 2020 FR Americas Vice Champion David Malukas. Malukas ran Indy Lights for HMD in 2019 and then again with the team in 2020 in FR Americas after the announcement of Indy Lights season cancelation due to the pandemic.

“I am looking forward to a new season and the new challenge that lies ahead,” Pedersen said. “I completed my first two-day test at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in November and am now testing at Sebring International Raceway as well to become comfortable with the car, new surroundings, new team members and everything that comes with entering a new series. We have several more tests planned within the coming months and I will be working hard to ensure that I am 100 percent ready to go for the start of the season.”

Pedersen opened the 2020 season with FR Americas until the British BDRC F3 season resumed, scoring three top 10 finishes in five rounds. In his FR Americas career, the Danish-American pilot has amassed seven wins, 12 additional podiums and four top five finishes. In 2019, Pedersen earned the Vice Championship title, coming in second to GRG teammate Dakota Dickerson.

Pedersen is the second driver to come up through the F4 U.S., FR Americas program to announce his 2021 Indy Lights campaign. Earlier this week, inaugural FR Americas champion Kyle Kirkwood confirmed his ride with Andretti Autosport.

HMD and GRG announced the breakthrough Indy Lights partnership in November. HMD Motorsports will field two entries while the other two car/driver combinations will be entered as Global Racing Group with HMD Motorsports. All four entries will be run out of the HMD Motorsports shop in Brownsburg, Indiana, and will work together to create one dynamic and powerhouse operation.
