JHDD Show Speed in FR Americas Season Opener

JHDD Show Speed in FR Americas Season Opener

Jay Howard Driver Development (JHDD) kicked-off their 2021 racing season at Road Atlanta with the opening rounds of the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda and the Formula Regional Americas Championship Powered by Honda.

Christian Bogle, competing in his first Formula Regional Americas race with the team, secured three Top 10 finishes in the opening rounds of the championship. While Bogle secured valuable points in the process, his speed had promised more after qualifying in third for the first qualifying session of the season. Despite some tough racing incidents, the focus will be very much on capitalizing on his speed at the next event.

On the F4 US Championship side, Matthew Christensen enjoyed a successful F4 US debut with the JHDD outfit, securing two Top 5 finishes at the undulating Road Atlanta circuit, demonstrating that he will be a factor in this year’s championship battle. Joe Ostholthoff enjoyed a fantastic opening race event in single seater racing, showcasing remarkable progress throughout the event and already demonstrating he has the speed to run with the mid-pack. Seth Foley suffered an unfortunate weekend, being involved in racing incidents in the opening two races that prevented him from taking the green flag for race three. The young American will be determined to show his natural speed at next event of the championship at Road America

Team-owner, Jay Howard, was keen to focus on the positives after a whirlwind of a weekend.  “I’m very proud of the entire team and all of our drivers after the opening event of the season here at Road Atlanta. Christian (Bogle) really did show great speed all weekend but doesn’t have the results to show for it. He needs to keep his head up and the results will take care of themselves. On the F4 side, Matthew (Christensen) enjoyed a good debut weekend, and I’m looking forward to seeing him being a factor all season. Joe (Ostholthoff) continues to amaze me, and his progression has been superb considering his distinct lack of experience. Tough one for Seth (Foley), but sometimes those weekends happen in racing. We know he is quick, and I’m confident that we can move forward with him and focus on securing the results we know we are capable of. As always, a big thanks to all of the boys for all of their hard work and looking forward to seeing what the rest of the season has in store for us.”

Next up for the JHDD F4 US Championship and Formula Regional Americas outfits is a trip to Road America, May 14-16. Fans can follow live coverage courtesy of FanRacingLive.com, along with updates via the Race Monitor App and JHDD social media channels.

WHAT THE DRIVERS SAID:

FRA #7 Christian Bogle
Round 1 – P8; Round 2 – P10; Round 3 – P9
“For race 3 we ended up getting back out and bagging some points which is important for the championship. We showed great speed all weekend, but the results weren’t really there. We had a bit of bad luck on top of some driving errors but looking to come into Road America strong and see what we can do there.”

F4 #4 Seth Foley
Round 1 – DNF; Round 2 – DNF; Round 3 - DNS
“It was a rough weekend. I wish it would have turned out a lot better, but I hit the wall in race 1 and got taken out in race 2. As a result, I didn’t start race 3, but looking forward to coming back stronger for Road America and I will see you all in May!”

F4 #5 Matthew Christensen
Round 1 – P4; Round 2 – DNF; Round 3 – P5
“Pretty good weekend, pretty consistent all event running inside the top 5 almost every race. I’m already looking forward to the next event at Road America. I want to thank my Mom, my Dad and all of my family for their support, as well as a big thanks to all of the JHDD boys for their hard work.”

F4 #7 Joe Ostholthoff
Round 1 – P18; Round 2 – P13; Round 3 – P22
“Good first weekend with the team, the car was quick, and if the weather had been a little better today (Sunday) we probably would have gotten a better result. We will make sure we get the car back up and running ahead of the next event but looking forward to getting after it with the JHDD boys at Road America.”
