Bryson Morris Earns Two Podiums Including a Win at VIR
October 11, 2022 – The first two F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda races of the weekend were nothing but success for championship hopeful Bryson Morris as a win and a pair of podium results elevated him to the point lead. Doing what he needed to do on the track to move into the premier position, it was all for not in race three as an issue on track caused Morris to fall down the running order and out of the points.
After showing speed through Thursday and Friday’s practice sessions, Bryson Morris continued his charge for the F4 championship Friday afternoon with a superb qualifying session that secured him the pole position and inside front row starting spot for race one on Saturday morning. Surrounded by teammates with a Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport one-two-three in qualifying, Morris went into the first wheel-to-wheel race with the confidence of at least a podium result.
Taking the lead early before a long caution period slowed the field after only one lap, Morris maintained the lead until the final few minutes of the race.
“My teammate had a good run on me and with the current championship leader out of the race due to contact, I had championship points on my mind,” explained Morris. “I tried to defend Ryan (Shehan) a little but did not want to take any risks. Finishing second and gaining more points moves me closer to the championship lead with five races remaining. No time to let up now though.”
While race one fast time setting the grid for race two, Morris found himself back in row three as he rolled off in the fifth position. Making quick work of the drivers in front of him, the #39 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport entry was back in a familiar position, at the front of the field. Overcoming a restart and advances from a trio of drivers, Morris was able to earn another F4 victory, 25 championship points, and take over the series point lead with one more race on the weekend.
“It was a great day,” added Morris. “We are doing what we can to win this title. Gained points on everyone I needed to in today's races and am super confident heading into tomorrow and race three.”
Returning to the track Sunday and looking to repeat his success from the day prior, Morris was able to make it through the first corner unscathed after multiple cars would go off course bringing out a caution. Going back green after a lengthy cleanup, the Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport entry would run into the top-five before spinning off the track and falling down the running order.
“I am not quite sure what happened,” explained Morris. “It was a very weird situation. I am not sure if there was oil on the track from the earlier incident or not, but I just lost it. From talking to others and looking at some replays, many drivers had difficulties when we went back to green flag racing so just a little confused. Not the day we needed for the points chase, but we will regroup and come back to the final event weekend and look to go for three wins.”
It will be less than a month until the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda finale rolls off the grid at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. With a chance at the championship, Bryson Morris will spend the next few weeks preparing as he looks to claim the 2022 F4 Championship.
