SYDNEY - 2019 American Formula 4 Champion, Joshua Car will be joining Velocity Race Division in an off-track capacity as it enters the 2023 SP Tools Australian Kart Championship with four young drivers.

Joining Car at the helm of the outfit will be Velocity Race Division owners, James and Matt Macken.

It is a return to Australia for Car, who counts winning both the Australian X30 Championship and the Las Vegas SuperNats on his career CV, in addition to the 2019 F4 U.S. title. 

Josh had a successful five years racing in America, being based out of Texas, while the Velocity Race Division has seen success on the Australian national stage in the past.

The three Velocity Race Division senior drivers in the TaG category are - Angus Biddle, Cohen Kokotovich and Declan Payne, while Lucas Loeskow will also make his AKC debut in Cadet 9, the youngest category in the national series. The team is utilising the CRG Chassis with the full support of Chris Dell from CRG Australia.

Both Car and Macken expressed their excitement about returning to the national scene.

“It’s been a while and I’ve missed competing at the national level,” said James Macken. “Locally we had customers wanting to step up so we resurrected our incredibly successful national team and have commenced off season testing.

“Velocity Race Division has backed Josh throughout most of his career and to have him not only back in Australia but working in the team is exciting. Josh has developed significantly as a person through spending time in the U.S. and we’re thrilled to have him back home with us.”

Car echoed Macken’s comments.

“America was great, it gave me many life experiences, but I was also able to stay in the karting loop mentoring several young drivers with the team I raced for,” Car said. “Coming back here to join the Macken family and assisting some up and coming drivers that are heading out for their first Australian Kart Championship campaign will be a new challenge.

“We’re under no illusions how competitive the series is and we’re working with all four drivers to get them as close to the front as we possibly can.”

The SP Tools Australian Kart Championship begins March 3-5 in Murray Bridge, SA before heading to Perth for the first time ever in April. It will then take in Newcastle and Ipswich before heading to Melbourne for the Grand Final on August 25-27. 

Each event will be livestreamed through karting.net.au.
