Momentum Motorsports and Garrett Dettman Finish Sixth at NOLA

March 16, 2023 It was the first event weekend of 2023, and it was the first top-ten result for Momentum Motorsports after a year-hiatus from the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda. Entering Garrett Dettman in the 30-plus car field at NOLA Motorsports Park, Momentum and Dettman finished sixth in race one to kick off the season with a point-scoring position in 2023.

After qualifying 18th on the grid, it was a spirited drive forward from the outside of row nine in the first wheel-to-wheel action of 2023 as Dettman sliced and diced his way through the field and into the top-ten. In a race that featured a couple of caution periods, Dettman took advantage when the track was green and was able to drive forward to a P6 result.

“It was a great start for the team,” explained Phil Picard, Owner of Momentum Motorsports. “We believe that Garrett has what it takes to be a winner in this series and despite a poor qualifying effort, his race craft proved that to me even more than I already believed.”

Race two did not go as planned for Dettman, being pushed off course and relegated down the running order despite showing pace to run inside the top-ten.

Picard added, “At that point we turned race two into a qualifying session for race three.  Dettman earned the eleventh fastest lap of the race and started race three on the weekend from inside row six.”

It was another barn burner affair in the third and final F4 race of the weekend as Dettman was once again able to mix it up in the midfield and cross the line in the 12th position after again being pushed off and recovering.

Picard added, “It was a good start for Garrett. After very little testing and a year away from the series, to come in and mix it up with the bigger teams is great. He is learning who he can and can’t trust wheel to wheel. We are a single-car effort, so we don't have other teammates to learn from so in that aspect, Garrett did very well. We will look to possibly add an additional car later this season if the right opportunity presents itself.”

“A huge thanks to everyone who made this weekend and is making this season possible,” explained Dettman. “The first weekend just finished but I am already primed and ready for the next one.”

Next up for Momentum Motorsports is the second event weekend of the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda at the famed Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin in mid-May.
