June 26, 2023 – It was his second event in as many weekends as Dane Scott traveled from Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, and Road America, to Lexington, Ohio, and the famed Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Moving from the USF2000 program to the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda to gain more experience, Scott completed three wheel-to-wheel races over the weekend and added experience and knowledge to his platform.

With a traditional three-day weekend that featured practice and qualifying on Friday, Saturday would see the first wheel-to-wheel race of event. Sunday saw another pair of races in which Dane Scott completed the full race distance. With the weather providing several delays and schedule changes, qualifying was eventually cancelled setting the grid for race one by the current point standings.

“This was a tough day for me, but one full of learning opportunities,” explained Dane Scott after Friday’s practice. “I had a major learning curve trying to drive in the rain for the first time in my motorsports career. Practice one this morning was not my best, and I struggled with the car. Because of the weather conditions, qualifying was transformed into a second practice session. I improved a lot in this second rainy practice, earning a 12th place result but will have to start from the tail of the field tomorrow as the field is set on championship point standings.”

Returning to the track Saturday and set to start on the outside of row eleven, it was the second consecutive day of weather and Dane’s first career wet weather race. Staying out of trouble, gaining experience, and moving forward, the Jay Howard Driver Development competitor crossed the line 18th, completing his first wet weather event.

Scott continued, “I managed to make up four positions taking me from P22 to 18th. Wet conditions made the track slippery, but for my first race in the rain, I’m happy to make it out cleanly with a couple of overtakes.”

With dry conditions greeting drivers Sunday morning, it was time for a pair of wheel-to-wheel races to finish the weekend. Starting deep in the field, it was another experience-building race for Scott as he completed all 21 laps to finish in the 21st position. Race three saw Scott cross the line 20th to complete the weekend Sunday afternoon.

Scott added, “I learned a lot in the past two weeks and definitely have a plan and a path for the future. I am glad I was able to experience multiple different programs and will work with my parents, partners and JHDD to map out my future.”
