Ryan Shehan Takes FR Americas Title Fight to the Circuit of the Americas

October 10, 2023  After a two-month break from the FR Americas Championship Powered by Honda, the series returned last weekend on the rolling hills of the VIRginia International Raceway (VIR). Championship contender Ryan Shehan held on tight to his second position in the driver championship, keeping it consistent with three second-place results over the weekend.

Despite showing the fastest speed in practice Friday morning and throughout the qualifying session, Shehan was relegated to second fastest at the checkered flag, finishing just shy of another pole position.

Starting from the outside of row one on Saturday morning, Shehan held strong throughout the first wheel-to-wheel action, leading a few laps but ultimately crossing the finish line in the second position.

Saturday afternoon brought on the second race of their double-header day, where he claimed his second, second-place finish of the day, standing alongside his teammates and making it a Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport sweep of the podium for the second time that weekend. Sunday saw one final race and one final second-place finish, making it a hat-trick of P2 results for the 18-year-old over the VIR race weekend.

“The competition is tough this year,” explained Shehan. “We have been battling all season long and while I still have an outside shot at the title, there is still a chance. I’m very much looking forward to the Circuit of the Americas (COTA). It’s my home track and the season finale, so it would be great to score a trio of race wins in front of my friends and family. We aren’t giving up yet, we are still in the running for the title, so I’ll be giving it everything I’ve got.”

The young driver is now just 51 points behind the leader heading into the final three rounds at the famed COTA facility, the Austin native’s home circuit, for the Mission Foods Austin SpeedTour. With a home field advantage, Ryan will be eager to take to the 3.427-mile, 20-turn track the first weekend of November and hopefully leave with the 2023 FR Americas Championship title.

With three weeks before the next race, Ryan turns back to building and growing Ryan Shehan Racing and Shehan Strong as he prepares for several exciting announcements in the coming weeks and for his role as the Guest Speaker at the 14th Annual iWrite Book Signing and Gala in Houston on November 11th.
