Titus Sherlock Wins FR Invitational at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

SALINAS, Calif. (May 5, 2024) – Titus Sherlock won the inaugural Formula Regional Americas Championship (FR Americas) Invitational at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on Sunday afternoon. The first win of his FR Americas career, the victory came during the Mission Foods Laguna Seca SpeedTour.

“I’m super happy to get my first win in the FR car,” said Sherlock after the race. “It's been an amazing weekend here in Laguna Seca. This is one of my favorite tracks now. It was great to get more seat time before going into our next round at Road America. Hopefully, I can get some more points there and start fighting for the championship. It means a lot to win this weekend. Going through traffic at the end of race was a bit tough, but I was able to hold the lead the whole time and I had a good race. I can't thank my team and everyone that supports me enough. I hope I can do it again at Road America.”

With Race 1 washed out yesterday at the FR Americas Invitational, drivers had just one shot at victory. Blue skies at the famed WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca provided the perfect backdrop as the green flag waved on Sunday afternoon.

Jett Bowling (No. 02 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) secured the pole for the event with a 1:22.573 lap in Qualifying 2 yesterday morning. Lining up to his outside was Titus Sherlock (No. 31 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) in second. Sherlock had been quick all weekend, pacing both practice and Qualifying 1.

Bowling brought the field to the green flag, but Sherlock was able to pull to his outside as they entered Turn 1 and make a pass for the lead. The duo stayed close as they pulled away from the field, opening up a two-second gap over third-place racer Ryan Shehan (No. 66 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) by the completion of the first lap. However, Shehan, the most recent winner in FR Americas, wasn’t going to give up easy.

In a race that stayed green from flag to flag, the FR Americas drivers found themselves fighting lapped traffic as the clock ticked down. Bowling spun while working through traffic, and Shehan was able to capitalize on the situation to overtake second with less than five minutes left on the clock.

As the race reached its completion, Sherlock led the field across the finish line, with Shehan in second and Bowling third. Their Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport teammate, Landan Matriano Lim (No. 73 739 Racing Ligier JS F3) was fourth in class.

FR Americas returns to Road America in just two weeks for their second official round of the 2024 championship season. The three-race weekend will be part of the Road America SpeedTour, May 16-19. Tickets are available now at RoadAmerica.com.
